Cold weather is now upon us and with it comes its own driving hazards. Here are a few things to keep in mind for the winter season:
- Watch out for leaves, especially when it’s wet. Leaves can be just as slippery as ice in certain conditions.
- Look out for deer! It is mating season for deer so expect them to be out in numbers especially in the early morning hours.
- Just because it’s cold does not mean that there is no sun glare. Keep a pair of sunglasses nearby and keep your visor clear of junk.
- Fog is very common in the fall especially in the early morning. Use your low beams and keep your distance between you and the car in front of you.
- If possible, avoid using your parking brake in cold, rainy and snowy weather.
- Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-up.
- Check your tires regularly to make sure they’re properly inflated!
- DO NOT warm up your car in an enclosed area like your garage.
- ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT!
