Summer is indeed the hottest part of the year. Most people choose to stay indoors to beat the heat, but this comes at a cost. Your electricity and air conditioning bills skyrocket during these months, burning an extra hole in your pocket. Here are some great ways to not break the bank this summer:
- Turn off all lights and electronics before you leave the house.
- Use ceiling and standing fans rather than blasting the AC.
- Make sure to keep all doors and vents closed so that the air is circulating only in certain areas.
- Spend time outdoors. If you choose this, make sure your AC is off while you are away.
- Try to run your washer and dryer less.
- Implement blinds and curtains to offer shade in your house.
- Use your oven less. This causes less AC use because the house will become warmer due to hot appliances.
- Try making cooler meals (i.e- salads, smoothies)
- Use energy efficient light bulbs.
- When you do have to use your utilities, try using them during off-peak hours (early morning, late at night).
